Dr. Md. Kamal Hossain currently holds the position of Senior Associate Scientist at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, in 1998 (held in 2001). Later, he pursued his Master’s degree in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in 2009. In 2015, Dr. Hossain completed his PhD in Genetics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi, Malaysia.

His professional journey commenced as a Scientific Officer at the Plant Breeding Division of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Gazipur in 2002. He progressed to the role of Senior Scientific Officer in the Hybrid Rice Division at the same institute. However, in 2017, he transitioned to IRRI Bangladesh as an Associate Scientist.

Dr. Hossain specializes in plant breeding and genetics. Throughout his career, he has undergone several training programs encompassing various areas such as plant breeding, molecular breeding, statistical analysis of agricultural and plant breeding experiments, bioinformatics, advanced quantitative genetics, genomic selection, molecular data analysis, R language, and drone-based crop phenotyping.

His extensive professional experience has led him to publish numerous full-length research articles in both national and international high-impact journals. He actively participates in various international seminars and consortiums. Furthermore, Dr. Hossain takes on the responsibility of a breeding lead, offering technical support to private sector breeding capacity development. He also shares his expertise as a resource speaker in many breeding training sessions.
